Director: Patrick J. Lamparello, M.D.
Associate Director: Glenn R. Jacobowitz, M.D.
NYU Langone Medical Center’s 2-year vascular surgical residency program trains residents in all aspects of vascular and endovascular surgery. Two fellows are accepted each year.
As one of the foremost academic medical centers in New York City, NYU Langone Medical Center offers fellows rich and extensive opportunity to participate in difficult and complicated vascular surgeries, observe leading-edge clinical research, and present at local and national vascular surgery conferences.
Fellows complete the residency program prepared to achieve board certification. Former NYULMC graduates have received numerous awards and gained leadership positions throughout North America.
Rotations
Hands-on surgical rotations at Tisch Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, VA Hospital, and the Vascular Laboratory.
Vascular Surgery Rotations
NYU observes all regulations regarding resident work hours.
Fellows complete 4 rotations both years of the program:
Tisch Hospital: 3-Month Rotation
NYU’s Tisch Hospital is a large, busy academic medical service. Patients present all aspects of vascular disease including arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders.
Tisch Hospital has an active day surgery center where many vein procedures are performed each year.
At Tisch, fellows gain experience:
- supervising the Vascular Surgical Service, with patients directly under their care
- scrubbing in on the more difficult and complicated vascular cases
- directly overseeing general surgical residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners
- outpatient experience in the surgical faculty members’ vascular clinics
Bellevue Hospital: 3-Month Rotation
At Bellevue each fellow acts as a junior consultant for the vascular surgical services and trauma services. Fellows assist in the vascular laboratories and clinics daily and obtain extensive outpatient experience. All aspects of vascular surgery are encountered including a rich experience in thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections. The vascular trauma experience is second to none.
Veterans Affairs Hospital: 3-Month Rotation
At the VA Hospital each fellow acts as a junior consultant for the vascular surgical services. Fellows assist in the vascular laboratories and clinics daily and obtain extensive outpatient experience.
Vascular Laboratory: 3-Month Rotation
This rotation prepares residents for vascular laboratory certification. Fellows will also attend the vascular laboratory course for preparation of receiving vascular lab certification.
Research and Conferences
Residents present research at local and national meetings.
Fellows are provided with a significant portion of time for independent reading, research and conference preparation.
Fellows are required to present research at the Eastern Vascular Fellows Meeting held in the spring in New York. Most of the fellows present at other national vascular meetings as well.
Fellow are required to submit at least one abstract and manuscript to a national vascular meeting per year.
