Vascular Anomalies Research

Leading Worldwide Research of Congenital Vascular Malformations

NYU Medical Center is known as 1 of only 3 institutions in the world with recognized expertise in treating congenital vascular anomalies.

Congenital vascular anomalies can manifest at any point from birth to adulthood, with symptoms ranging from a disfiguring birthmark to hemorrhage or even heart failure. Though these lesions have been described since days of antiquity, they are still commonly misdiagnosed and incorrectly treated.

The NYU Vascular Anomaly Clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary group of vascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, interventional radiologists, pediatricians, and dermatologists. The team meets once a month to evaluate children and adults referred from across the United States and many other countries. NYU’s specialists design and provide individualized treatment for each patient. All patients are evaluated and treated regardless of their ability to pay.

NYU’s vascular anomaly specialists conduct basic science research in genetics and angiogenesis, publish much of the world’s scientific literature in the field, and spearhead new plastic surgical and endovascular approaches to treat vascular anomalies.
