NYU Cancer Institute
Although it was officially established in January 2002, the NYU Cancer Institute (NYUCI) has been offering cancer-related programs for over 25 years through its history with NYU Medical Center and the Medical Center’s affiliation with Bellevue Hospital Center. Each year, NYUCI makes strides toward its mission to decrease and eliminate cancer as a significant health problem by developing and maintaining excellent programs in patient care, research, education, and prevention.
A designated center of the National Cancer Institute, NYUCI uses state-of-the-art facilities and a multidisciplinary approach to successfully integrate basic science and applied clinical research into scientific discoveries that can be directly translated into better care for patients.
The bridging of research and patient care has resulted in Programs of Excellence in a number of fields, including:
- Breast Cancers
- Gynecologic Cancers
- Melanoma and other Skin Cancers
- Genitourinary Cancers
- Neuro-oncology
- Gastrointestinal Cancers
- Thoracic Oncology
- Head and Neck Cancers
- Pediatric Cancers
- Immunotherapies
Clinical Cancer Center
In July 2004, the NYUCI opened its 85,000 square-foot Clinical Cancer Center – a centralized location of outpatient services for adults with cancer.
Using the NYUCI’s multidisciplinary approach, cancer specialists, technologists, and counselors work together to deliver personalized treatment regimens that are specifically tailored to each patient. Care includes:
- Cancer Prevention and Early Detection
- Health and Education Resource Center
- Diagnostic Imaging Center
- Breast Imaging Center
- Medical Oncology-Hematology Treatment Center
- Radiation Treatment Center
- Supportive Services – counseling, social work, nutrition, pain management, etc.
- Community Outreach and Education
