Dr. Firas F Mussa is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at New York University School of Medicine and Langone Medical Center. After residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he completed his fellowship at the Michael E DeBakey Cardiovascular Center at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Mussa joined the faculty at NYU in 2007, and became a member of the section of Value and Comparative Effectiveness in 2010. He is well known nationally and internationally for his academic accomplishments. He was invited to join the reputed International Registry of Aortic Dissection (IRAD) and leading NYU to become the first Center of Excellence that is dedicated for the treatment of this potentially fatal condition in New York and New Jersey. He has presented his work and research around the world including the U.S, Japan, China, France, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Lebanon, and England. Dr. Mussa has published extensively in both basic and clinical research. Dr. Mussa is recognized as a thought leader in the treatment of aortic dissection and an expert in endovascular repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. He has been an investigator in more than 20 clinical trials. Furthermore, he collaborates with researches at Mount Sinai School of Medicine on novel imaging techniques with molecular MRI and PET/CT and PET/MR scans and developing new contrast nanoparticles.

In addition to aortic pathology, Dr. Mussa’s clinical interests include minimally invasive approach for varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease, mesenteric (intestinal) ischemia and carotid artery disease.
