Cardiac Rehab and Prevention
Physical rehabilitation at the NYU Cardiac Rehabilitation Center takes place in our new fully instrumented, state-of-the-art gym. A patient-specific regimen is made as soon as a patient enters the rehabilitation program. Patients work out to build both aerobic capacity and strength.
Patients are organized into classes, which also function as support and social groups. Classes always start with stretching with one of our physical therapists, nurses or exercise physiologists, followed by warm-up, exercise and a cool down period. Patients receive individual attention from our physical therapists, nurses and exercise physiologists, even while working out in a group setting.
All patients are fully supervised, to assure maximum safety and fitness throughout the workout. Patients are monitored by trained cardiac rehabilitation physical therapists, exercise physiologists, nurses and physicians-before, during and after the workout. Patients are also electronically monitored through special wireless cardiac monitors worn throughout the workout. The cardiac status of all patients is continuously monitored for patient safety and maximum effectiveness of the workout.
Locker rooms are available for outpatients, with showers, allowing for workouts around work, depending on patient needs.
