Our Healthcare Team

At the NYU Cardiac & Vascular Institute, a dedicated team of healthcare professionals stands ready to make your hospital experience as easy as possible. From the person who first greets you as you enter the medical center, to the doctors and nurses who care for you, to the social worker who offers you support -- your multidisciplinary team works together to make sure that all of your needs are met.

Our Doctors

The NYU Cardiac & Vascular Institute boasts a staff of physicians who are world renowned for their ability to care for patients with cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, many of them are engaged in clinical research, with the goal of developing new ways of diagnosing and treating these illnesses. And as part of the NYU Langone Medical Center -- a highly regarded academic medical center -- our doctors can easily access the expertise of physicians who are authorities in other areas of medicine, should you need them. Click here for a list of our doctors.

But most importantly, NYU Cardiac & Vascular Institute physicians are there for you -- to listen to you, to understand your illness and how it impacts on your life as well as that of your family and friends. They can also work with your personal physician to assure continuity of care.

Our Nurses

At NYU, your nurses are not only individuals who will attend to your specific needs -- they are highly skilled professionals with advanced education or special training in the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases. They can provide you with vital educational information both before and after your treatment. Your nurses are also available to serve as a source of information for concerned family members and friends. The most current teaching materials for your illness or procedure are available on the nursing units, and in the Patient and Family Resource Center. For more information, you may also visit the Nurse Practitioners and the Patient and Family Resource Center Web pages.

Nutritional Guidance

Following a healthy diet is a proven way to reduce your risk of heart and vascular diseases. To help you achieve this goal, the NYU Cardiac & Vascular Institute offers counseling by registered dietitians. To arrange for a consultation with a nutritionist, please call the Education Center at 212-263-7204, or speak to your nurse.

Support for the Mind and Soul

Although cardiovascular diseases strike the body first, inevitably the mind and soul are affected as well. That's why we offer psychosocial support services for you and your family. Our social workers can assist you with any plans regarding care after you leave the hospital, including home care, financial aid, transportation from the hospital, and continuing care in other healthcare facilities. They also lead support groups, where you can meet with other patients who may share similar experiences with you. To speak to a social worker or to inquire about a specific support group, please call 212-263-5018, or speak to your nurse.

Patient Representatives

Patient representatives are available to you as a resource for information about non-medical issues. Their role is to help you and your family with any questions or concerns related to hospital regulations and routines. A patient representative will explain to you what you should know about your rights and responsibilities, NYU Langone Hospitals Center's policies and procedures, and information about advance directives. They can also assist with any non-medical concerns that you or your family might have. The Patient Representatives Office can be reached by calling 212-263-6906.

Volunteers

You may see them in the admitting area, or the gift shops, or at the information desk, or even by your bedside. They are NYU Langone Hospitals Center's volunteers, and we treasure them. Our volunteers donate their time and efforts in both patient and non-patient areas to ensure that each patient's stay is as pleasant as possible. You may recognize our volunteers by their ID tags and their red or pink uniforms.
